Cinta Costera: Panama’s WYD headquarters in 2019

This is where most of the events of WYD in Panama 2019 will be held. It is called the Cinta Costera Uno.

All of the world’s Episcopal Conferences were in agreement that the Cinta Costera would be the best option.

VICTOR CHANG
Local Organizing Committee, WYD Panama 2019
“The big events, where the largest number of people are, are the main acts with the Holy Father. These are the events that will take place on the Cinta Costera.”

They have the approval of the Vatican’s Gendarmerie, whose specialists considered it suitable to guarantee Pope Francis’ security.

DOMINGO ESPITIA
Head of Planning – National Police (Panama)
“At the moment, we can assure that all security sectors are available to make World Youth Day a success in terms of administration, security and emergency matters.”

WYD will be held from January 22 to 27, 2019, and over 375,000 pilgrims are expected to attend, both national and international.

Panama’s WYD Already Has Its Own Official Website

Each World Youth Day always brings millions of people from around the world together. It is a trip that requires much preparation, and that is exactly why the next WYD, to be hosted in Panama in 2019, already launched its own official website.

The countdown begins.

The website is available in Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. In addition to fun facts and information on WYD and its locations, a message from Pope Francis also appears on the website.

POPE FRANCIS
“These moments of encounter and dialogue with you are very important for me, and I wanted this itinerary to be done in tune with the preparation of the next Synod of Bishops that is dedicated to you.”

Also appearing on the website is Ambar Calvo, the young Panamanian girl who designed 2019’s WYD logo.

AMBAR CALVO
“I had a very clear concept. The shape of the logo is very much related to the “M” of Mary, but now it forms a heart that expresses all the love that can be felt in Mary during World Youth Day and in our Catholic faith.”

Though there is still a year and a half until the next WYD, its detailed preparation is already evident, and for any important event, any preparation is short.

Cinta Costera will host the main events during the week of World Youth Day

Cinta Costera will host the main events during the week of World Youth Day: the Opening Ceremonies, the Papal Welcome Ceremony, and the Stations of the Cross. This tropical, waterfront “coastal beltway” is made up of 64 acres of park land that stretch approximately 3km along the Panama Bay. The site for the World Youth Day Papal Vigil and Closing Mass has not yet been announced.

Theme Song for World Youth Day Panama 2019 is Released

With tropical Panamanian rhythms and inspired by the event’s theme, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word,” (Luke 1:38), the theme song for the XXXIV World Youth Day Panama 2019 was released during the Cena de Pan y Vino – a traditional annual event in the Archdiocese of Panama to raise funds for the San José Mayor Seminary.

The Archbishop of Panama, José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta, said that, “the theme song is a call to become disciples and missionaries in these times, following the example of the Virgin Mary”. He added, “We are excited to make this song available to young people around the world, so when they sing it, they may find joy and allow themselves to be transformed by God.”

The song was composed by Abdiel Jiménez, a catechist and psalmist of the Cristo Resucitado (Resurrected Christ) Parish in San Miguelito, Panama City. He is also the author of many liturgical songs and participates in various choirs. He graduated from the School of Religious Sciences at the Universidad Santa María La Antigua (USMA).

The hymn was chosen through a selection process that made a public call for submissions. A jury, comprised of renowned professionals from the music industry, narrowed down the selection of 56 songs to three finalists. The Executive Committee for WYD, along with the participation of the Pontifical Council for Laity, Family and Life in Rome, selected Mr. Jiménez’s composition as the event’s theme song.

A local musical production team of seasoned specialists worked together to arrange and produce the official version. Aníbal Muñoz, Carlos Samaniego and Ricky Ramírez collaborated to create the recording that was released today.

World Youth Day is a gathering that brings young people from around the world together with each other and the Pope in a festive, religious and cultural atmosphere, which displays the vitality of the Church and affirms the contemporary message of Jesus Christ. It is held every three years and the last one took place in Krakow in 2016. The dates for WYD Panama 2019 are January 22 to 27, 2019.

The aim of WYD is to encourage a personal encounter with Christ, who transforms our lives; to promote peace, unity and fraternity among the peoples and nations of the world, through the youth as ambassadors to all humankind.
